I've used all these techniques (except I'm not sure what the 7th technique was talking about). If this techinique could really help, I'd like some better explaining. I have a Mensa sudoku book that started easy and gets VERY hard. I am at #330 out of 600, and I am coming to where I cannot solve any more and was looking for a good tip on another method of figuring. If anyone knows an additional tip or could explain this 7th one, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Look at www.scanraid.com. Then look at the Sudoku solver. It will solve any Sudoku step by step so you can find out what you missed. Also there is a description of all the techniques.

It is not always true that sudoku puzzles have only one solution. Some are malformed and have more than one solution. This is, as far as I can tell, due to logic errors in the programs that generate them.

RE: Multiple Solution Sudokus
By: Posted Anonymously,

A sudoku game on my computer wouldn't recognise that I'd solved the puzzle - I'd complete it and the time would keep on counting. This happened three times in a row (easy mode). I then looked up this thread to see if multiple solutions existed to see if this was the problem.
I tried again, this time trying not to "think like I normally do" and employed different techniques before others and sure enough - I got a solution that the computer finally accepted. Out of interest, it seems that chess-playing computer programs SEEM difficult to most humans, beating the world's number one player etc, but if you start "thinking like the computer" even amateur players can consistently beat that same program.

Hi to all Sudoku lovers!
I have been playing Sudoku for years now, and I just came to discover a new Sudoku version which is built in Excel and I really liked it. That's why I wanted it to share it with people here immediately.
It is based in Excel liked I said, and it allows you to check the values you enter if they are valid and see the correct values while playing the game. I think it is far better than the manual version, because it displays the solution when you get stock on it. I have to say that I found it more challenging and stimulating to play Sudoku like this.
You can go and download the game from the link below. It is free.
http://www.spreadsheetzone.com/templateview.aspx?i=253
Hope you will all enjoy it!
Cheers,
Suzzy

Some sudokus are really difficult to solve. After going through the book “ Art of solving sudoku step by step “by Joshi Narahari , things have changed. Now sudoku has become challenging and entertaining game. I would be happy to know opinions of your readers.

I agree. The concept is simple, but it looks deceptively easy to solve.

Instead of writing in the candidate numbers in empty spaces, use dots (periods), with three dots across the top of the space to be 1, 2, & 3; three dots across the middle to be 4, 5, and 6; and three across the bottom to be 7, 8, & 9. Then, for example, if the three candidates are 1, 5, and 9, you will have only a dot in upper left corner, a dot in center of the space, and a dot in lower right corner. Advantages: 1- less writing to erase, 2- ease of identifying pairs or trios, etc., and 3- you may even just write the final number over the dots and not bother to erase.

This has got to be one of the best brain excercise games ever created. I've never been much of a crossword person. I always get a few words here and there, but never enough to make it worth my while. Soduko fun and captivating game that can keep me going all afternoon.
